Behind every great solicitor is a team of dedicated secretaries, IT staff, marketing, HR professionals and post room assistants. Our lawyers know they could not provide a first class service to clients if it wasn't for our committed business support team.

In many law firms there is a real 'them' and 'us' culture between legal and support staff, but you'd be hard pressed to find that at BPE. Staff turnover, particularly among secretaries is low, and many of our team have worked for us for more than seven years. Our open plan office means that partners, trainee solicitors and secretaries sit alongside each other. We're fairly informal too and people that thrive here work hard but also appreciate the fact that we respect people's work life balance. We're a sociable bunch and there are plenty of opportunities to get together with colleagues outside the office.

We understand the need for some of our support staff to work flexibly and we have members of team who work part-time, some even outside normal office hours, so they can maintain their work life balance as well as providing support to fee-earners.

We expect all our business support staff to be IT literate and to have first class communication skills. Our digital dictation system allows our secretarial team to work smarter, not harder. We invest heavily in training for all our staff and support the continuing personal development of our business support team. We encourage career progression and welcome junior staff applying for internal promotion or moving to a different department to take on a new and interesting role.

Our benefits package is generous and includes a contributory pension scheme, 25 days holiday, income protection to cover long-term illness, childcare vouchers and death in service benefits.

Many of our business support staff have taken advantage of a two month paid sabbatical, available to staff with 10 years service. They have used this time to travel to countries as diverse as Italy, Peru and Africa and America. Alternatively, you can simply relax at home and spend time with your family.
