Partner wins national award
Joanne Davis, credit and asset finance partner at BPE Solicitors, has been named as Litigation Specialist of the Year in the national Credit Today awards. Joanne, BPE's youngest partner, was one of five litigators put forward for the award.

Clients and members of Joanne’s five-strong team were in attendance at the awards ceremony, hosted by comedian Graham Norton, at the Grosvenor Park Hotel in London’s Park Lane.

Now in their eighth year, the Credit Awards offer the UK credit industry the opportunity to be rewarded for their work. Joanne was presented with her award in front of 1,500 of her peers, beating stiff competition from the likes of Clarke Willmott and Brethertons.

Glowing client testimonials supported Jo’s application, including one from Robert Kirkham-Evans, Assistant Credit Manager at Birmingham-based Caterpillar Financial Services (UK) Ltd.

He said: “Joanne introduced us to a fresh approach with litigation. Her confident and knowledgeable approach is a credit to her profession and we wholeheartedly endorsed her for litigator of the year.”

BPE’s head of dispute resolution Philip Radford said: “I am delighted that Jo has been recognised as an industry leader. She has transformed the credit and asset finance team beyond recognition since she joined the firm four years ago and I am very proud of her.”

Joanne said: “I can’t believe it. My team were behind me all the way and said I would win from the start. But until Graham Norton presented me with the award I did not believe them. It was great to celebrate with clients who have worked with me from the beginning and supported my nomination.”

Unusually for a solicitor, 31-year-old Joanne worked at the coalface in the credit and asset finance industry for Roy Scot Trust before qualifying as a lawyer. Within two years of qualification Joanne was promoted to partner in May last year – recognition of her dedication and aptitude for credit and asset finance law.

For the past two years Joanne has supported members of the Consumer Credit Trade Association (CCTA) by contributing regular case updates to the Journal of the Consumer Credit Association. Her knowledge of the new Consumer Credit Act has resulted in her being asked to present at the Credit Show 2007 having previously delivered a presentation to CCTA members on the changes.

This is the second major award for BPE Solicitors in the past six months. In November Antonia Shield, a Partner in the firm’s Commercial Property team, was named regional commercial property adviser of the year in the South West Commercial Property Awards.
