Retirement age and age discrimination
There has been some debate over whether or not the UK’s retirement age at 65 is lawful under the European Age Discrimination legislation.

The European Court of Justice has recently handed down a judgement stating that the mandatory retirement age is lawful because it is a proportionate means of achieving a social aim, namely promoting employment opportunities and reducing unemployment.

Another blast of common sense, although this will come as disappointing news to the Heyday’s challenge in the European Court on this issue.
