BPE’s corporate team has supported longstanding client Mears Group plc in making the move from AIM to the Official List of the UK Listing Authority.
The move is expected to benefit the Gloucester-based business by providing greater liquidity in its shares and raising its profile with both investors and potential customers.
Partner Anthony Rudge, who has an established reputation in the public company marketplace, led the BPE legal team made up of fellow Partners Helen Lovatt and Tim Ward and Solicitor Simon Morris.
Supporting Mears on the admission process involved BPE liaising closely with various bodies, including the Financial Services Authority and individual financial institutions, to ensure the transition was handled smoothly and efficiently.
“The time was right for Mears to move from AIM onto the Official List. The company announced record results last year, seeing its turnover increase by more than 26 per cent to £304.6m. A series of high profile strategic acquisitions over the past 12 months has also boosted the company’s position in the domiciliary care market. The change in status is sure to attract new customers and investors to the business,” said Anthony.
Helping to launch BPE’s new brand last year Mears’ Chief Executive Bob Holt said: "BPE has acted for Mears for more than a decade. Like its client, 2007 was BPE’s most successful corporate year to date with a raft of corporate and commercial activity, including AIM floats, public takeovers, major M&As and high-value, complex commercial contracts.
The eight-strong team completed over 55 deals with an aggregate value of more than £250 million. Many of the deals helped the firm’s nine AIM-listed clients, including Mears Group plc, Maxima Holdings plc, The Jelf Group plc, and Hexagon Human Capital plc, remain firmly on the acquisition trail.
“Taking the lead on admissions of this kind helps to position BPE as a serious player in the corporate marketplace. Our team’s blend of commercial acumen, razor-sharp technical expertise and first class client care skills has not only kept existing clients happy, but has also helped to secure a number of new client wins,” added Anthony.
