48 Hour Week
Following talks in Luxembourg, the EU has decided that British employers can cling on to the right to ask employees to work more than 48 hours a week signing an opt out clause.

Workers choosing to opt out will, however, be subject to a maximum of 60 hours averaged over 3 months.

Employers should bear in mind case law over the last year or two which has ruled that the opt out must be separate to the employees contract in order to be effective.

More details will be available in due course.
