Legal duo trek across India to raise money for the Star Appeal
Two members of Gloucestershire’s legal community are heading for the world’s highest mountain range as part of an organised trek to raise money for the National Star College’s £15.4m Star Appeal.
BPE’s Corporate Partner Tim Ward and Personal Injury Specialist Peter Lodge are joining National Star College Principal Helen Sexton and 27 other sponsored trekkers to complete a five day trek in the remote Himalayan region of Himachal Pradesh in October.
The trek will last 10 days and will take the duo across 1800 miles of the Himalayas through pine groves and oak forests, on glaciers and grassy ridges with panoramic views across valleys with snowy peaks.
Tim and Peter aim to raise £5,000 for the Star Appeal by taking part in the trek. Principal and Chief Executive, Helen Sexton, launched the trek earlier this year as part of the Principal’s Star Appeal Challenge to raise funds needed for urgent improvements to the College’s current facilities and future expansion plans.
Helen Sexton commented: “We need to raise £15.4m to provide the right facilities for our severely disabled students. This trek alone has the potential to raise £40,000 and a great deal of awareness for the College and our Star Appeal. I am very grateful for the ongoing support of the BPE team and am delighted that Peter and Tim are joining us on the trek. I would like to wish them both the best of luck with their fundraising, getting fit and for the trek itself.”
Pete and Tim have been busy training at weekends and in the evenings in preparation for the trek and have roped in friends, colleagues, clients and professional contacts to help them with their fundraising efforts.
A fun quiz about India, several dress down days and a curry night will all have been used to help the pair meet their fundraising target.
“As a firm we have a really close affinity with the National Star College and I am pleased to have been selected to take part in the trek. Although the whole experience is likely to be physically challenging I am motivated to succeed knowing that through my fundraising efforts a charity that I care about will be better able to improve the lives of disabled young people,” said Tim.
