BPE corporate partner shortlisted for regional award
BPE corporate partner Tim Ward been named as a contender for the title of individual Corporate Lawyer of the Year in the South West – the third successive year a lawyer from the Cheltenham firm has reached the final stages of this prestigious award.

Tim is a prolific deal-doer who caught the attention of this year’s judging panel while completing transactions for a number of BPE’s acquisitive plc clients.

He specialises in corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, disposal investments and joint ventures. He also works on flotations and secondary offerings by AIM-quoted clients.

He has particular experience in the insurance market, acting for the Jelf Group plc on a number of acquisitions including one of its latest acquisitions of the Argyll group. Tim also handles banking matters, recently advising one client on a major multi-million pound banking facility.

Further experience includes work in the healthcare sector, mainly involving nursing homes, healthcare staffing and domiciliary care provision. In the past twelve months Tim has acted on eight Mears acquisitions of domiciliary care providers.

A number of BPE’s major plc clients and other senior business advisers in the region backed Tim’s nomination providing glowing testimonials and even volunteering to give direct feedback to the judges.

Longstanding client Helen Davies, Group Development Director for the Jelf Group plc said: “I have worked with Tim for a couple of years; he has always managed to deliver the deal within our timescales. He has excellent commercial judgement and is very solution orientated. He focuses on the key commercial drivers and issues that are important to us and does not allow the process to get bogged down in unnecessary detail.”

Legal directory The Legal 500 highly recommends Tim for his corporate expertise.

All short-listed lawyers represent the cream of the region’s deal-making community. Winners will be announced at a black tie awards dinner on September 25 in Bristol.

Supported by the Western Daily Press, the coveted South West Deals Awards are the only ones in the region to champion dealmakers in the corporate finance community – from lawyers to accountants, bankers and venture capitalists.

BPE’s Senior Partner John Workman, who was himself shortlisted for the awards for two consecutive years, (and is not at all jealous!) said: “Tim is a formidable deal-doer who has the ability to simultaneously manage multiple corporate transactions whilst always keeping clients in the picture and ensuring they benefit from his commercial approach. He is part of the bedrock at BPE and thoroughly deserves his nomination.”
