BPE Solicitors LLP’s personal injury team riding high after receiving national praise for its work
BPE Solicitors LLP’s seven-strong personal injury team is celebrating after winning further external praise for its work.
The team, which was recently named as one of three leading Personal Injury teams of the Year in the Eclipse Proclaim Personal Injury Awards 2009, has now received the best possible ranking in the South West from independent legal directory Chambers UK, for the way in which it represents claimants.
BPE was the only firm in Gloucestershire to be ranked in the top tier for personal injury claimant work by Chambers. The directory said that the firm was particularly commended for its industrial disease work and commented: “It is clearly excellent at what it does.”
Two of the team, Partner Mark Ovington and newly-promoted Associate Ann-Marie Whelan, were singled out for particular praise.
Having spoken to clients researchers remarked: “Ann-Marie Whelan is “an absolute pleasure to work with – she is determined and dedicated, with real passion for the case.”
Mark Ovington was recognised for having a strong profile in the sector and is part of a team that enjoys a client following that stretches across the south of England.
Earlier in the year the team was also named as one of the leading personal injury firms within the South West region by another independent legal directory, the Legal 500.
Head of department Partner Julia Briano said: “The personal injury market is highly competitive and it must be very difficult for people to decide which solicitor or claims company should represent them when they have an accident.
“Independent national recognition, like that we have received recently, not only gives us a massive boost but helps to position us as real experts in our field.”
Personal Injury claims handled by BPE have been significant in 2009 with a raft of medical and clinical negligence, accidents at work, industrial disease, road accident claims, employers’ liability and health and safety prosecutions being handled by the team. They also handle a significant number of high-value asbestos-related claims.
This year saw BPE’s specialists exceed £10 million in compensation for factory workers in Oxfordshire left partially deaf after working in noisy conditions. Gloucestershire aerospace industry workers now also trust BPE with similar claims.
The team does not ‘buy’ in cases and most new claimants are referred by former clients or medical specialists who rely upon BPE to support their patients’ legal interests. Although the firm is based in Gloucestershire, claims are handled nationwide. They range from straightforward fast track matters to High Court cases valued at more than £1 million.
Many claimants proactively select BPE rather than panel solicitors recommended by their insurers because they have heard of the team’s reputation.
