BPE Solicitors LLP’s Senior Partner John Workman named as one of UK’s hottest lawyers
BPE Solicitors LLP’s Senior Partner John Workman has been named as one of the UK’s “Hot 100” lawyers in a report compiled by a national trade magazine.

“The Hot 100”, produced by magazine The Lawyer, highlighted a group of lawyers who have been at the top of their game throughout the economic crisis.

The report stated that John Workman was one of the trailblazers for alternatives to widespread layoffs when he convinced his partners to take pay cuts to minimize redundancies.

They also recognised that he was a key driver behind the policy to introduce a four-day working week, a move the firm was able to reverse in June 2009 when work levels began to pick up.

“It is an honour to be included in a report with lawyers from Magic Circle firms and other large national practices and to be acknowledged as an innovative leader who was prepared to take risks in order to retain key staff,” said John.

“We practice what we preach at BPE and, at a time when we were advising clients to consider reduced working hours as an alternative to staff redundancy, it would have been crazy for us not to consider that option for our own business.

“We had great feedback from clients and we were seen to be adopting a commercial, pragmatic approach to the economic downturn,” he added.

BPE’s approach to the economic downturn has paid off for the firm and is now providing a firm foundation for growth in 2010.

Over recent months BPE has invested in a number of new, high calibre staff, including Employment Partner Lisa Norman and IP specialist Jason Stratford-Lysandrides.

The firm’s corporate team has recently finalised a number of high-value transactions for Plc clients and new instructions in commercial property and employment are on the up.

“This is a great way to start the New Year and is a real boost to all the management team at BPE,” added John.
