A Legal Exchange Strengthens BPE Solicitors' Relationship with Estonia
Links between Cheltenham based BPE Solicitors and Estonian law firm, LEXTAL were further strengthened recently when Kathryn Johnston, a Solicitor from BPE was invited to spend a four week secondment in Estonia through an exchange programme between the two firms.
BPE has had a relationship with the Estonia for the past 25 years, acting for the Estonian Government on major litigation and defence projects as well as for British businesses trading in and out of the Country. In 2013, Senior Partner, John Workman was appointed Estonia’s Honorary Consul.
Kathryn recently helped with hosting LEXTAL staff when they visited BPE and jumped at the opportunity to take part in the exchange programme and experience the legal system in Estonia.
She commented, “I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Tallinn and with LEXTAL, and I would definitely encourage our staff to take the opportunity to come on secondment here. It is a fantastic opportunity to compare legal systems and to see law in practice in a different context, as well explore the history and culture of this beautiful country.”
Specialising in commercial litigation, Kathryn was given the opportunity to work on a range of cases including insurance and competition matters, mergers and acquisitions, and employment law whilst in Estonia.
“It was clear that I was going to experience the practice of law in a very different way and the legal structure is very different in Estonia. But I jumped at the chance to spend a month working in Tallinn and I cannot recommend it highly enough.”
Tiina Pukk, an Attorney-at-Law at LEXTAL, who worked closely with Kathryn during her secondment, said: “Kathryn’s coming here just proves the program we have in place has been highly rewarding and will continue to be so. It has always been about networking and having a great connection between the two firms.
