BPE Solicitors launch dedicated Renewables Team

BPE Solicitors has launched a dedicated Renewable Energy Team. In the past 18 months the team has delivered more than 190MW of solar PV into the grid with 248MGW projects in the pipeline.

Based in Cheltenham and with offices in London, Bristol & Bath and Begbroke Science Parks, the BPE Renewables Team advise funders, developers and EPC Contractors on all aspects of renewable energy projects and recently advised EMDC Solar (A subsidiary of SBC Renewables) on the largest single span roof PV site in the UK (6.1MW) which sits on the rooftop of Marks & Spencer’s East Midlands’ distribution centre in Castle Donnington.    

EMDC lease the roof space and sell the energy back to M&S with any excess being sold to the grid. BPE Renewables advised SBC on the lease, construction and power purchase agreement as well as the forward funding and disposal of the project to Amber Infrastructure.

“Given our significant finance experience, we aim to reverse engineer projects to ensure they are bankable from inception. No two deals are the same, but the market expectations dictate the need for creative solutions to fit the requirements of institutional investors,” said Tim Williams, a Partner in the BPE Renewables Team.
