BPE Solicitors passes £20,000 charity target following Macmillan Way trek

Cheltenham-based BPE Solicitors has raised more than £20,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support following a 297-mile coast-to-coast walk from Lincolnshire to Dorset.

Starting on Saturday 1 July in Boston and ending on Saturday 29 July on Chesil Beach, BPE Equity Partner Rob Bryan and BPE Property Consultant John Russell walked the entire Macmillan Way. They were joined by more than 200 staff, clients, friends and family along the route. As part of a two-year corporate partnership with the charity, the firm hopes to raise £108,000, the amount needed to fund two new Macmillan nurses.

John Workman, BPE Senior Partner, says: “We’re so pleased to have raised more than £20,000 for Macmillan so far and would like to thank everyone who took part in the trek – we’re extremely grateful for the support we’ve received.”

Rob Bryan was inspired to launch the campaign with BPE after experiencing the dedicated care and support of Macmillan nurses when both his mother and a close friend received care from the charity.

During Rob and John’s epic walk, they stopped to speak to local residents and attended a variety of events, fitting in the occasional press interview on the route to encourage donations to Macmillan.

Rob comments: “I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported us on the walk, and to everyone who made a donation. The walk took us through some beautiful countryside and despite some rainy days, we thoroughly enjoyed the challenge.

“Macmillan nurses made a profound difference to the way my mum and family experienced cancer. Their gentle reassurance and compassion made an incredibly tough journey a bit more bearable. But the costs associated with employing and training new nurses are considerable. I hope that by raising the £54,000 needed to fund two new positions, we will make a huge positive difference to families like mine.”

Anyone wishing to make a donation can do so by visiting www.justgiving.com/fundraising/MacmillanWayChallenge or by texting BPEWALK to 70550 to donate £5.
