BPE Solicitors, in conjunction with the CIPD Gloucestershire and Gapsquare, hosted a successful morning seminar on Wednesday 11 October with an audience of over 100 delegates.
The commercial law firm’s six strong Employment team presented to a packed room at Hatherley Manor Hotel on the recent changes in employment legislation and what to expect over the coming year.
“There have been some big developments in employment law this year including the quashing of Employment Tribunal fees and the introduction of the gender pay gap reporting obligations for all large organisations. There are also some big issues for HR practitioners to get to grips with such as GDPR that are coming down the tracks fast” explained Tim Gofton, Partner in the Employment team. “For this reason, it’s vital to keep up to date with the latest developments in employment law if you’re involved in HR or you run your own business” Tim goes on to say.
This year’s key topics were the abolition of employment tribunal fees and how this will impact businesses; how judges will tackle pensions compensation in Employment Tribunals, the implication of employee tax fraud for employers; holiday pay & the gig economy; dismissals and disciplinary case updates; and the new GDPR regulations coming in next May. Whistleblowing and the national minimum wage were also discussed and, as always, case updates were given. External speakers, Gapsquare, also presented on closing the gender pay gap.
