New Innovation Strategy sees a planned boost to funding UK Innovation

Today (22 July) the Business Secretary, Kwasi Kwarteng, announced an exciting new Innovation Strategy in the UK at the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre, part of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult which BPE formed in October 2011 on behalf of what is now Innovate UK. This Innovation Strategy which will see substantial further investment in research & development, will support:

  • Unleashing Business – fuelling businesses who want to innovate by ensuring effective access to private and public investment;
  • People – creating the most exciting place in the world for talented innovators;
  • Institutions and Places – ensuring R&D institutions serve the needs of businesses and promoting innovation in places across the UK; and
  • Missions and Technologies – stimulating innovation in technology and missions that will provide the UK with a strategic advantage and will be critical to tackling some of our greatest challenges

Partner in BPE’s Technology division, Rob Bryan, who has spearheaded BPE’s involvement in the heart of the UK innovation community for the last 11 years, including working in the last year with a client on legal work associated with the development of a Covid vaccine had this to say about the Innovation Strategy: “What the UK continues to achieve, including during the pandemic, with the right backing and investment, has been world leading. As such, we look forward to supporting plans to sustain and grow innovation within the UK ”.

The BPE Technology division works with businesses in the “Technology Families” identified by Kwasi Kwarteng, in advanced materials and manufacturing, life sciences and bioinformatics, digital, and engineering and energy.

BPE Solicitors was the first law firm in the UK to have a dedicated offering to support publicly funded STEM organisations, and over the last 11 years has worked on the establishment and early stage growth of many major public-funded STEM initiatives, including the entire Catapult programme.
