Freedom of Information

We mainly advise on how best to respond to receipt of Freedom of Information requests. Freedom of Information law provides that information held by a public authority must be made available to anyone who asks for it, subject to a number of exceptions, both qualified and absolute.

We have substantial experience of advising public authorities on compliance with their duties whilst negotiating the minefield of exceptions. We recognise that information gives power so, with access to public information, organisations are able to make better informed, more relevant offers to carry out work and ensure that where failure to win a tender occurs that there has been compliance with all relevant procurement and other laws.

The inherent conflict between Freedom of Information, Data Protection and Human Rights laws is not an easy one to navigate but we have extensive experience of doing so and thus ensuring that public authorities can attain the appropriate balance.
