My Perfect Sunday: Nick Bevan, Bevan Chartered Surveyors

This month, we interviewed Nick Bevan, founder of Bevans Chartered Surveyors.  In his own words….

“We started our business in 2008 with no plans to expand and to just 'do a bit of consultancy'. My how things have changed. Back then, I did everything needed to earn a living and administer a new business. Now we have expanded to a business with seven highly skilled Chartered Surveyors and a great support team. We now work for some very big companies all over the country, so resourcing has to be carefully managed. My role is now focused on business development, client care, strategy and making sure the team have the best support and resources to do a great job for our clients.”

I've been involved with the construction and engineering sector since: 1975, starting life as a trainee planner. I soon realised this was a big mistake and moved to a firm of Surveyors in Cheltenham in 1978. I love the construction industry and its characters. I’m not sure I was cut out to be a planner and I don’t think planning was ready for me either!

The best thing about my job is: The people I work with. They are committed, professional and we have the same vision and standards. I love going to work with them.

The worst thing about my job is: The bureaucracy we face trying to conclude the most straightforward tasks. There seem to be an awful lot of organisations out there who make it their business to complicate the simplest of processes. I guess the trick is to go around what you can’t go over.

The first album I ever bought: I’m not sure as I was more into sport than music, but it was probably Roxy Music, Roxy Music’s first album 1972.

My favourite holiday: New Zealand. I loved the culture and the scenery. The people are great and life just seems simpler there. Pity they are so good at rugby!

My favourite bar/restaurant in Gloucestershire: We now live in the Brecon Beacons so I’m a bit out of touch. Bar would be The Royal Union. Restaurant would be The Bell at Sapperton

Make mine a (e.g. pint of real ale or G&T): Reverend James in a straight glass at room temperature. It must be in a bar where the bar staff know that beer IS NOT LAGER.

In 2016… More of 2015. We’ve had a great year and another of the same would be very acceptable.

My perfect Sunday would be: Clear bright morning on my motorbike into the Brecon’s and mid Wales followed by the best Sunday lunch ever at our local, The Castle, in Llangorse. After a lazy lunch, an amble home through the fields with the dog then an afternoon sat in front of the fire with my wife and a bottle of red … fantastic!
