Solicitor’s marathon effort for charity

A pair of Cheltenham based solicitors from BPE will be tackling the 26.2 miles of the London Marathon in April, raising money for charity and demonstrating that their legal prowess is matched by their athletic ability.

Lisa Gettins will be running to raise funds for Tusk Trust, who initiate and fund conservation, community development and environmental education programmes across Africa to alleviate poverty and protect wildlife.

Kathryn Johnston will be running for Kids, a charity that supports more than 8,000 disabled children and their families in England. Providing practical assistance to families as well as providing respite care and support for siblings, Kids also acts to challenge discrimination through education aiming to create an inclusive world for children and young people with disabilities.

But as if that isn’t enough, the London Marathon that Kathryn will complete will mark the end of a month of activity – Kathryn will be running not one, but four marathons. Starting in Paris, she will then run the Manchester and Brighton courses, before finishing in the Capital.

Commenting on her ambitious month of marathons, Kathryn said: "Running like this four weekends in a row for charity is going to be a real challenge. My training has been going well, and I feel confident for the runs. The key will be pacing myself and recovery – I want to set good times, but I need to be aware of the efforts required over the following weeks and make sure I am at peak fitness for not just one but four weekends in a row in order to absorb the atmosphere in London!"

It’s not the first time that solicitors from the Cheltenham firm have completed marathons – last year Peter Tyrrell and Lloyd Anthony also completed the London marathon for local charities.
