My Perfect Sunday: Mark Price, Managing Director of Vitruvius Management Services

The BPE Construction & Engineering Team has worked closely with Mark Price for a number of years. Not only physically (we can see his office from ours) but also on a number of projects and indeed dispute matters. Vitruvius provides specialist construction, project management and commercial services to clients needing support with construction related projects. They describe themselves as working in partnership with clients to ensure their planned construction project meets the needs of their business, not just for the short term, but for years to come.

I've worked in the construction sector since: I was 17.  I took a 2 year diploma in Building Studies at Hereford tech and then went on to do a 4 year degree in Quantity Surveying, so it’s true to say construction has been a major part of my life from a very early age.

The best thing about my job is: There are so many things…. I love the challenge of creating the perfect team for a project and watching that project grow from plans on a page to a building that absolutely meets the needs of a client. I also 'enjoy' the complexity of some jobs where I’ve been called in half way through a project with my ‘Red Adair’ hat on to sort out problems that have occurred on site.  I don’t think many jobs can give you the pure satisfaction of walking past a finished building that just works on every level, and knowing that we played a major part in making that happen.

The worst thing about my job is: It just eats away at your time.  Construction is not a 9 to 5 job and at times it is all consuming.  It would occasionally be nice to finish work at a normal time go home, eat dinner, spend time with my wife, kick back and relax….. but then reality kicks in!

The first album record I ever bought was: It was so long ago!  I think it would probably have been Dexys Midnight Runners - Come on Eileen.

My favourite holiday was to: Taking holidays in this line of work doesn’t happen very often - we hadn’t been away for years, but a couple of years ago my wife and I took a Cruise around the Mediterranean, stopping off at various locations along the way.  One stop was Monte Carlo – I can remember sitting outside Café de Paris in the Place du Casino, right in the heart of Monte Carlo, it was something I’d always wanted to do and it didn’t disappoint – it was fantastic.

My favourite bar/restaurant is: I like to go to The Fostons Ash. It is local for us: a good country pub, good food and drink. We are always welcome especially with the dog.

Make mine a: A pint of Guinness in the winter and Stowford cider for the summer – to be honest I’m just as happy with a good glass of Claret!

In 2016.... We just haven’t stood still for a minute. It’s been a ‘hang on to your hat’ sort of year so far. We’ve had some incredible projects on board with a lot more in the pipeline. We’re working with some well known local names and made some great contacts both close to home and further afield.  Things are only going to get busier as we move into the second half of 2016 – exciting times ahead!

My perfect Sunday would be: A good ground frost, a long walk with our chocolate labrador Monty. We are spoilt for choice where we live surrounded by beautiful Gloucestershire countryside. I listen to some music through my headphones, usually classics from the 70's or 80's, occasionally with an impromptu burst of song - Monty and the cows don't appear to mind.  Then home to the smells of roasting meat, Georgina my wife cooks the best Sunday Lunch, whether it’s just the two of us or with family and friends this is easily my favourite time of the week. A large glass of claret, watching rugby or a film on our comfy sofa completes my perfect Sunday.
