Constructing Excellence South West - Guide to appointing an architect

BPE Solicitors has contributed to another collaborative publication by Constructing Excellence South West (“CESW”).  Following on from the CESW Legal Guide to off-site manufacturing in 2018, this latest guide contains all you need to know when appointing an architect.

The publication is aimed at commercial clients although will also be useful for private individuals embarking on their own grand designs projects.  Solicitors from different firms across the South West have collaborated with architects, mediators and insurance brokers to write about topics such as: the RIBA Work Stages, considering the form of appointment, CDM Regulations, copyright, agreeing the fee, Professional Indemnity Insurance, collateral warranties and dispute resolution.  BPE Solicitors Senior Associate Anna Wood was invited to contribute two chapters to the publication and has written on the topics of “RIBA standard form vs bespoke appointment – a brief comparison” and “collateral warranties and novation”.  Anna said, “Regular readers of the BPE Construction Newsletter will know that we aim to cut through the legalese in our writing and provide clear guidance which focusses on the key drivers for commercial clients.  When procuring extensive building works, clients who are new to the construction process often approach an architect first: but who helps them with dealing with the architect?  This guide contains all the key information and is a great starting point for any client.”

Launched at the CESW South West Construction Summit in June, the guide has been incredibly well received with paper and digital copies in high demand.  Although written for those appointing architects, it is architects themselves who have been particularly excited by the publication.  They have said that they will provide this guide to their prospective clients a it is produced by a highly respected industry body and gives clients an unbiased reference point for those early conversations.

Alongside her role as a Senior Associate in the BPE Solicitors’ Construction & Engineering Team, Anna Wood is Club Secretary of Constructing Excellence Gloucestershire Club.  She was delighted to launch the Guide in Gloucestershire at the Club’s Annual Conference on 26 June.  Constructing Excellence Gloucestershire Club Chair, Kevin Harris of Bamboo Technology said “CE Gloucestershire works hard to uphold the values of the CE network: promoting excellence in construction and working towards positive change through innovation and collaboration.  We are so proud that Anna, as a key member of our Club, has contributed to this fantastic  publication which embodies so much of what CE is about.”

If you would like a copy of the CESW Guide to Appointing an Architect please contact Anna Wood.  As well as a digital edition we have a limited number of hard copies available.
