Trainee Talks: Olivia's first month

Olivia Gladstone joined BPE as a Trainee Solicitor in September 2022 after completing her Legal Practice Course earlier this year. We asked her about her first few weeks at BPE - here's what she said...

TWhat do you think of your training contract with BPE so far?

BPE has exceeded all of my expectations I had when I started my training contract. I work directly with clients on a daily basis, I have real responsibility in my role, and I am learning something new every day (if not every hour). All the while, I am supported and not pressured into performing unrealistic expectation from a first seat trainee.  The work-life balance and working environment is something to be admired by other law firms.

What is your first seat?

For my first seat, I am in the Commercial team. Commercial is incredibly interesting and I am really enjoying learning a whole new area of law. I have been here for over a month now and have never performed the same task twice. I cannot believe how much I have learnt in such a short space of time. My favourite tasks so far has been drafting a non-disclosure agreement and negotiating clauses in a Master Supply Agreement.

How has BPE made you feel welcome?

I was made to feel a part of BPE before I even started. Before day one, I was invited to the BPE Summer Party in July and had a Trainee Welcome Meal. This made walking in on my first day much easier! Additionally, the Commercial team took me out for lunch to welcome me to the department. Everyone has gone out of their way of make me feel welcome – whether it is inviting me for drinks or just coming over to my desk and introducing themselves.

I am looking forward to the next two years of my training contract and getting more involved in BPE.
