BPE are proud to announce that they have sponsored the 100th defibrillator in Cheltenham, located at MX on Chester Walk.

On 30th April, BPE ESG Committee members Rebecca Pike, Karmen Waldron and Alice Duffy met with Clare Tidal Training Direct Ltd , who created the Public Hearts Defibrillator Campaign 2018. In April 2025, Clare and the team celebrated the fantastic achievement of placing 100 defibrillators around the Gloucestershire area, with a particular focus on the heart of Cheltenham. With 35,000 out of hospital cardiac arrests in the UK every year, having a defibrillator nearby is essential and could save your life.

Senior Partner, John Workman said: “Public Hearts is a campaign that I’m sure many people in the Gloucestershire area have heard of. BPE Solicitors and I are incredibly honoured to say that we have helped to fund the 100th defibrillator in Cheltenham! Clare and the team at Tidal Training have done such a fantastic job over the last eight years of taking Cheltenham from no defibrillators at all, to 100 in just 8 years. Hearing that many of the machines have been used multiple times shows how important they are in helping our community, and we’re delighted to have had the opportunity to help. I’m sure we will continue to hear the good news that the Public Hearts campaign brings to the people of Cheltenham and Gloucestershire in years to come. A herd of thanks to everyone involved in this incredible campaign.”

Clare is passionate about making defibrillators accessible to the public. The Public Hearts campaign has ensured that defibrillators are available and accessible for all to use, including integrated paediatric and  settings for adults in many of the defibs, as well installing the defib cabinets at a height accessible for children and wheelchair users as necessary. The shocking statistic that twelve people across the UK, aged 14 - 35 die from cardiac arrest each week proves that access to defibrillators is paramount within our community.

The Public Hearts campaign also provides the public with access to a map of all of the defibrillators throughout the UK via the Public Hearts Defib Hub.

Well done to Clare and the team for their momentous achievement – we are honoured to be part of it!
