BPE Solicitors go the extra mile

Staff from BPE Solicitors will take the first steps of a 297 mile journey across the country this weekend as they begin to walk the Macmillan Way, a coast to coast trek from Lincolnshire to Dorset.

No strangers to charity challenges, the Gloucestershire-based law firm has signed a two-year corporate partnership with Macmillan Cancer support, and has pledged to raise £54,000 for the charity, the amount needed to fund two new Macmillan nurses.

The walk will take place from 1-29 July and will see hundreds of people from BPE and a number of national corporate sponsors tackling the route.

John Workman, Senior Partner, explains: “We have taken on several challenges in the past – usually on bikes rather than on foot – but this is more ambitious than anything we’ve previously attempted. More than 200 people will be joining us on this walk, and we’re extremely grateful for the support we’ve received so far.”

Rob Bryan, Equity Partner, was inspired to launch the campaign with BPE after experiencing the dedicated care and support of Macmillan nurses when both his mother and a close friend received care from the charity. Since the fundraising began last year, the firm has raised more than £12,000 for the national charity.

Rob says: “Macmillan nurses made a profound difference to the way my mum and family experienced cancer. Their gentle reassurance and compassion made an incredibly tough journey a bit more manageable. But the costs associated with employing and training new nurses are considerable. I hope that by raising the £54,000 needed to fund two new positions, we will make a huge positive difference to a family like mine.”
