BPE's trained mediators provide a safe, confidential and supportive environment allowing you to discuss and resolve your issues.
What is Family Mediation?
Family Mediation aims to give separating couples the opportunity to reach agreements without the need for court action.
At BPE we can provide a safe, confidential and supportive environment for you and your partner to discuss, and agree, future arrangements regarding your children, finances and property, allowing you both to look forward to the future.
Mediation puts the control back in your hands, allowing you to decide the arrangements, unlike court proceedings, where a Judge will dictate what must happen. We understand the stresses and difficulties that are often faced during separation and work with of you to ensure the best outcome is achieved for everyone involved.
A mediator is completely impartial and as such, they cannot give you any legal advice but can provide a wealth of information about the law and the Court’s approach in similar cases.
Our trained in-house Family Mediator, Helen Cankett is accredited by the Family Mediation Council and has over a decade and a half of experience in assisting couples with the thorny issues that inevitably arise on family breakdown.
How it Works
You will each initially be invited to an individual "intake session", designed to discuss the benefits of the process and assess whether mediation is right for your situation.
If you both decide that you wish to mediate, the first joint session will be arranged. These normally take an hour and half each and you will usually need two to three joint sessions to cover everything. Meetings are held in a private room at our offices allowing the opportunity to discuss your situation in a neutral environment and without distraction.
If an agreement is reached, we will then prepare written summaries of the information provided by you and your partner and the arrangements you have come to.
If mediation is not possible face to face, we are able to offer digital mediation via Zoom, Skype, WhatsApp or FaceTime. This can be carried out in the same way as a face to face session and the mediator will ensure confidentiality at all times.
