Family Law Myth 5: Family lawyers always go to court

MYTH: Family lawyers always go to court

REALITY: It is not always the case that family disputes need to be resolved in Court, and lawyers are duty bound to ensure that other methods of resolution, such as Mediation, are explored before resorting to the Court. Mediation allows a couple space to try to reach an agreement, whether in relation to children or finances, with the guidance of a trained impartial mediator. Helen Cankett, head of the Family Team, is a trained mediator and has successfully helped many couples to reach an amicable solution without Court involvement.
